The Lions Judo Anniversary 2025

12

In 2025, we proudly mark the 12th anniversary of Lions Judo Club, a testament to our unwavering commitment to the sport and our community. Founded in 2013, our club was established with the vision of making judo accessible to all, fostering discipline, respect, and personal growth through martial arts.

Our Journey

2013: Lions Judo Club was established in Wolverhampton, supported by a £5,219 grant from Sport England. This funding enabled us to acquire essential equipment, including judo mats and suits, laying the foundation for our training programs.

2018: We celebrated our 5th anniversary with a special event at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Wolverhampton. The day featured a masterclass by former British Champion and Olympian Kelly MacDonald, an interclub competition for juniors, and a successful fundraiser for the mental health charity Mind, raising £115.

2025: This year marks our 12th year of promoting judo in Wolverhampton. We’ve expanded our reach, offering classes across the city for individuals aged 5 and over, without the need for referrals. We were honoured to welcome Gemma Howell, Olympic judoka and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, to lead a masterclass that inspired every athlete in the room. Her passion, skill, and story reminded us why we train — and what’s possible with discipline and drive.
